LIBRARY Automation – The usage of 10 systems in library is as follows:
The Library is connected to campus LAN. Subsequently the house keeping operations and services such as Acquisition entries, serial control and circulation of books (use of Barcode System for issue and return of books) have been computerized. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) facility has been created for the users. The faculty members can search the OPAC from their respective departments through campus LAN. The library books are Bar-Coded and charging and discharging (issue and return of books) is being done through Bar-Code issue System.
In order to speed up the work at circulation desk the services and operations at circulation counter are automated. Her user will be provided with a master digital Bar-coded Membership Card. In the library all the documents are bar coded. The user will produce his member ship ID card then user account will be opened. The document is scanned using of laser scanners.
The easiest way to find a book is to use the OPAC terminal provided in the library. By entering simple keys, such as the author’s name the Title of the book or words from the title. The OPAC terminal will also tell the reader the location of books whether the particular book is issued or available in the Library.
